Kentucky Peerless is bringing back a classic in a new way 102 years later

The distillery closed in 1917 and reopened its doors in 2015.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — From the taste, to its history, Kentucky Peerless is releasing a one-of-a-kind classic to pay tribute to its roots.

"We've poured our blood sweat and tears into this process. It's something that's as timeless as the thoroughbreds here in the bluegrass," said Caleb Kilburn, the master distiller.

The family owned and family run operation that started in the early 1880's, closed in 1917 and re-opened in 2015.

Corky Taylor is the CEO and Chairman of Kentucky Peerless, but he is also a 4th generation excited to bring years of hard work to Louisvillians.

"We put it in a barrel at 107, we take it straight from the barrel to the bottle, we don't add water to it," Corky says.

And that's not an industry standard.

He is following in the same footsteps as his great grandfather.

Even though it's been 102 years since their closing, that hasn't been the only waiting game. Next weekend, customers will officially be able to buy their new bourbon, is a traditional, classic bottle.

That bourbon has been cooking for the last four years.

"For a person like myself, that has no patience, to wait four years for bourbon to come to fruition, it's a stretch," Corky says.

Corky and his team say their distillery stands out from others in the bluegrass for many reasons.

One being their sweet mash technique.

They start with fresh corn, rye, barley, and all other ingredients, and everything is in house.

They don't source a single drop.

Not an industry standard.

With so much family history and years in the making, they are excited to show off their bourbon that combines the old with the new.

"Kentucky Peerless is the fusion of modern execution and technology, this this antique artisanry," Kilburn says.

You can go to Kentucky Peerless on Saturday, June 22nd, to purchase a bottle of their new bourbon. But the amount is limited so get there early! Their address is 120 N 10th St.
