Flood advisory for Silver Creek Dam has been lifted

The National Weather Service says officials pumped the lake level down enough to significantly reduce the threat of failure and flooding.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A flood advisory for the area around Silver Creek Dam has been lifted.

The advisory started earlier this week when crews were on scene at the Silver Crystal Dam, near the South Park Country Club in the Fairdale neighborhood, for a potential dam failure.

According to officials on scene, ditches became clogged from recent heavy rains and caused too much pressure on the dam. An underground pipe was relieving the pressure.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Louisville says officials pumped the lake level down enough to significantly reduce the threat of failure and flooding.

Property managers at the Silver Lake Country Club say they followed proper protocol and got the county involved. Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency and the Kentucky Division of Water were inspecting.

Locations most likely impacted by the flooding would've been areas downstream of the dam along Wilson Creek. South Park Road, Farmers Lane, and Hornback Road are the most likely locations that could've experienced flooding in the event of a failure.

Railroad tracks that run parallel to South Park Road would've also likely flooded if the dam failed.
