LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville man has been charged with murder after confessing to shooting and killing a person in Butchertown on Friday.
Louisville Metro Police responded to a report of a shooting around 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the JB Swift (JBS) plant, located in the 1300 block of Story Avenue right off of I-64.
Police said 26-year-old Zachee Imanitwitaho, an employee at JBS, was found suffering form multiple gunshot wounds and died on the scene.
Shortly after police arrived at JBS, 58-year-old Edilberto Lores-Reyes showed up at Louisville Metro Corrections and confessed to the murder, according to his arrest citation.
LMPD's Matt Sanders said he was taken in by detectives with the department's Homicide Unit and interviewed. The citation said the gun used in the shooting was inside Lores-Reyes vehicle which was parked outside Metro Corrections.
Employees at JBS informed police both the suspect and victim were employed at the facility. Police say surveillance video captured the shooting.
"The shooter in the video is wearing the same clothes [Lores-Reyes] was wearing when he left work prior to the shooting, and then when he showed up at Metro Corrections confessing to the murder," the citation said.
According to police, the video also shows the subject fleeing the crime scene in the same vehicle Lores-Reyes parked outside Metro Corrections.
Officers say their "very preliminary information" suggests this was an isolated incident in the parking lot and don't believe JBS was on lockdown.
Lores-Reyes has been charged with murder.
