8 more locations secured for special election in Jefferson County

According to Secretary of State Michael Adams, the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office has agreed to provide 12 locations instead of four.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County residents will have more options for voting in the upcoming special election for state Senate District 19 where voters will decide who will fill Morgan McGarvey’s empty state Senate seat.

According to Secretary of State Michael Adams, Jefferson County Public Schools has agreed to provide eight schools as additional voting locations to the original proposed four locations.

Here's the new locations:

  • Atherton High School
  • Audubon Elementary
  • Hawthorne Elementary
  • Highland Middle School
  • Seneca High School
  • Smyrna Elementary
  • Southern High School
  • Watterson Elementary

Kentucky’s Board of Elections previously denied that original plan, a decision criticized by Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw.

The plan will not be final until the Board of Elections considers it during a special meeting scheduled for this week.

That special election between Democrat Cassie Chambers Armstrong and Republican Misty Glinn was set for Feb. 21.
