'We just had faith' | Shelby County family grateful for safety after tornado hits neighborhood

Neighbors in that community said it was some of the worst damage they had ever seen in person, mostly to barns and sheds.

SHELBYVILLE, Ky. — The National Weather Service returned to Shelby County Friday to survey the damage left behind by Wednesday night's severe weather. On Thursday, crews determined that two tornadoes had touched down in the area, and now a third has since been confirmed.

Friday morning, the NWS visited a rural Shelbyville neighborhood on Tatum Road. While they were there, they found damage indicating an EF-0 tornado with wind speeds up to 80 mph.

Neighbors in that community said it was some of the worst damage they had ever seen in person, mostly concentrated damage to barns and sheds. Thankfully, no serious injuries or deaths were reported.

Lamar Braggs was at home with his wife Adrianne and dog when the storms hit Wednesday evening.

"We heard this sound coming like a locomotive," Braggs said. "We didn't know if our home was going to stand strong. It could take us with the house, but we just had faith it was going to pass over us."

He said his family moved to the area about six months ago and is now focusing on getting back to normal after such a scare. Their home suffered little to no damage, but their barn will take significant work to restore.

As far as power, families tell us outside of short outages during the storm, there haven't been issues since.

A total of seven tornadoes have been confirmed so far across central and eastern Kentucky by the National Weather Service. An EF-1 tornado hit southeastern Jefferson County while two EF-0 tornadoes were reported in Spencer County.

Additional confirmations are possible as crews continue their surveys across the state.
