Kentucky reports 287 new COVID-19 cases, 8 deaths

There were also 72 new cases in Jefferson County, according to the state's daily report released Sunday.

Sunday, May 16

The current week is ending, and Kentucky is reporting another 287 cases of COVID-19.

Gov. Beshear’s office said the state’s positivity rate has dropped to 2.79%.

Another 8 coronavirus-related deaths were reported, bringing the total Kentuckians lost to 6,656.

On Sunday, there were 381 people hospitalized, 112 in intensive care and 53 placed on a ventilator.

There have been more than 6.4 million tests given and more than 1.9 million people vaccinated in the Commonwealth.

Kentucky has reported 452,537 cases of the virus since tracking began last March.

Saturday, May 15

Gov. Andy Beshear's office announced 488 additional cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth. Of those new cases, 118 of them were found in those 18-years-old and under. 

Five new deaths were also reported Saturday. 

Jefferson County's 113 cases reported are also included in that total. 

Kentucky's positivity rate stats at 2.83%. 

There are currently 403 people hospitalized, 115 in intensive care and 51 on a ventilator. 

Officials also said more than 1.9 million Kentuckians have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Overall, Kentucky has reported a total of 452,250 positive cases and 6,648 deaths since the pandemic began last year. 

Wednesday, May 12

Governor Andy Beshear announced Kentucky children ages 12 and older may receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine beginning May 13.

On Wednesday, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expanded the emergency use authorization (EUA) for Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine to include children ages 12 to 15. 

“Starting tomorrow, more Kentuckians will have the opportunity to receive a COVID-19 vaccine and further protect themselves and those around them from this dangerous virus,” Gov. Beshear said in a release.

So far, 1,891,937 Kentuckians have received at least the first dose of the OCVID-19 vaccine.

On Wednesday, 680 new cases of COVID-19 were reported.

Tuesday, May 11

Kentucky officials have reported an additional 758 cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

There were 23 deaths related to the virus, bringing the total to 6,620.

The positivity rate is at 3.15%

Nearly 1.9 million Kentuckians have received at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

 “No matter where you are in the state, you can sign up for a COVID-19 vaccine near where you live or work,” said Gov. Beshear. “Now, when you get a shot of hope at many Kroger or Walmart locations, you can even earn a free shot at winning the lottery. It’s easier than ever.”

Monday, May 10

State officials said more than 80% of Kentuckians 65 and older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as 167 more positive cases were confirmed in Kentucky.

Eleven more deaths were also confirmed during Monday’s media briefing.

The governor shared another startling statistic. He said 852 out of 857 Kentuckians who died on or after Feb. 1, 2021 due to COVID-19 were unvaccinated.

“No matter where you are in the commonwealth, you could get vaccinated tomorrow with a very short drive,” said Gov. Beshear. “We need people to keep getting vaccinated. It’s proven to be incredibly safe and effective.”

So far, about 1.8 million Kentuckians have received at least their first dose of the vaccine.

The top 10 counties for highest number of first vaccine doses administered May 3-9 are:

Jefferson (6,553); Fayette (2,850); Boone (1,670); Kenton (1,536); Hardin (903); Campbell (864); Daviess (683); Warren (578); McCracken (551); and Oldham (506).

UofL Health to host mobile vaccination site in Shively

UofL Health announced a free mobile clinic offering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be in Shively on May 12. The clinic will be open 9 a.m. to noon at The Heritage at 1901 Park Rd. There will be a drive-thru and walk-ins are welcome. Call 502-308-9749 with questions about the mobile site.

Sullivan University and Lexington-based Wild Health have partnered to offer COVID-19 vaccines on the school's main campus on Bardstown Rd. in Louisville. Vaccinations will be available by appointment every day from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sign up for an appointment online at kyvax.wildhealth.com/.

As of Sunday, Kentucky reported a total of 448,952 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began. The total number of people who have died due to the virus is 6,586

On Sunday, 195 new cases and 8 more deaths were reported.

About 1.86 million Kentucky residents have received at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
