UofL Health launches text alert service to find quickest ER location

Patients can text "ERWAIT" to 511511 to get wait time information for UofL Health's seven ER locations.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — UofL Health has announced the launch of its new text alert service focused on giving patients the quickest and most convenient emergency room locations.

Patients can text "ERWAIT" to 511511 to get wait time information for UofL Health's seven ER locations in Jefferson, Bullitt and Shelby Counties.

"With UofL Health ERWAIT you spend less time in the waiting room and get on the fast track to a patient room," said Dorie Shelburne, vice president of operations for UofL Health. "This is part of the on-going commitment of our entire system to improve access, so there is never a reason to put your health on hold."

Wait times can be sent 24/7, with updated data every 10 minutes. The service does not cost money, though standard wireless provider message and data rates may apply.

"When you text ERWAIT to 511511, it puts you in control of how fast you get help," said Tina Ethington, director of ambulatory emergency services at UofL Health. "With so many locations offering emergency care, it is great you have options. Now you have the information to ensure you get quick care."

The service is for emergency care, though UofL said anyone experiencing a life-threatening emergency should always call 911. The severity of other cases can impact wait time.

For life-threatening emergencies always call 911. The severity of other cases in the ER at the time of your arrival can impact the actual versus estimated wait time.

UofL's seven ER locations are at UofL, Jewish, Mary & Elizabeth and Shelbyville Hospital, as well as Medical Centers East, South and Southwest. For more information, click here.
