Coroner ID's three in fatal crash involving multiple vehicles on Sherman Minton Bridge

The interstate was shut down several hours while police investigated the crash.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A mother and her three-year-old son have been identified following a multi-vehicle crash on the Sherman Minton Bridge just after midnight Monday.

The Jefferson County Coroner said 34-year-old Dawn Sawyers and her son Lincoln Korb, both of Georgetown, Indiana, died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the incident. Elizabeth S. Rojas Jacinto, 34, of New Albany also died of blunt force trauma sustained during the crash.

Louisville Metro Police said an SUV was driving the wrong way on I-64 West when it encountered several oncoming vehicles. After the first vehicle swerved out of the way, the SUV hit the vehicle Sawyers and her son were traveling in head-on.

Sawyers, her son and the driver of the SUV died at the scene.

Police said a fourth vehicle was also hit during the incident, but no injuries were reported.

The interstate was shut down several hours while police investigated the crash.

The investigation of the incident is ongoing.
