Lexington becomes gigabit city

Lexington mayor Linda says it gives the city a competitive advantage as officials try to attract more jobs.

Lexington is now a gigabit city. Officials announced in a statement on Tuesday that construction of a fiber-optic network was completed, making Lexington one of the largest gigabit cities in the country.

A statement from the city says MetroNet laid 4.4 million feet of fiber in neighborhoods across Lexington over the last 2 1/2 years.

The city now has enough fiber-optic cables to make gigabit internet access available to all residents and businesses.

Mayor Linda says it gives Lexington a competitive advantage as officials try to attract more jobs.
