Hundreds of protesters gather at Jefferson Square preparing for counter protesters that never showed

For days, people were sharing information on social media that armed counter protesters were coming downtown Saturday morning

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Saturday protesters were expecting dozens of counter protesters to travel in to Louisville and show up at Jefferson Square Park. However, none of them showed up.

Louisville Metro police (LMPD) started preparing for the counter protesters on Friday. Hundreds lined the barricades at Jefferson Square Park while streets and parking were blocked off. It was all in preparation for a reported 'armed militia group' to arrive. group to arrive.

"The people that are out here currently wish to see humanity live in peace," said Jibriyll Izrael, a protester.

But as the hours came and gone, they never showed up, people like Izrael stood their ground, hoping it never turned violent.

"Up until now nobody's gotten hurt, up until now there's been no altercations," Izrael said. "I know that we're in the fight of our lives."

He is one of the many who have been fighting for justice for nearly a month along with Davon Taylor, another protester.

"Until justice is served, we will be out here, I'm going to still be out here chanting," Taylor said. "There's power in numbers and together, we're going to get this done."

They were alongside nearly 300 people who have been a part of this movement.

Despite the counter protesters not showing up near 6th and Jefferson, LMPD told us a group of about 30 did gather in Thurman Hutchins Park for a few hours. An outcome many of the protesters say, was necessary to keep the peace.

Nearly a month later, the message is still the same from these protesters. They are looking for justice. They are looking for answers and don't plan to leave here anytime soon.
