Louisville nail salon busy welcoming back clients with plexiglass shields, face masks

Nail salons are seeing a business boom after being closed for two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Guests are getting fresh coats of polish while Louisville Nails and Spa gets a fresh start since the COVID-19 pandemic hit Kentucky.

“I was so excited that I called Lin right away,” said Mary Alice Brown, talking about the owner, Lin Sreymom-Chuon.

After months of no manicures, the doors are back open.

“They looked pretty bad but we hadn't been anywhere so it doesn't make any difference, I guess,” Brown joked.

Back in business only two days, the salon on Bardstown Road is booked out a week already, but not without some changes.

“We have face mask shields for our pedicure technicians,” manager Phinx Nguyen said.

The salon also installed handmade plexiglass shields at every manicure station, paired with disinfectant products.

Operating by appointment only for now, they’re sticking to five nail techs and five clients inside at a time.

Everyone is asked to wear a face mask, wait in the car until it's time for their appointment, and sanitize their hands when they walk in.

“We’re thinking about what we can do to make it better for the client,” Nguyen explained.

Brown said it’s working.

“Everybody here has made us feel very comfortable,” she explained.

Phinx said he's missed his clients, welcoming each back with a friendly joke.

“They're lucky I still know how to do nails after three months or so,” he laughed.

He said he’s dedicated to making sure the salon can keeps everyone inside safe, and polished, as the pandemic continues.
