No injuries reported after fire damages business at New Albany strip mall

The thick, billowing smoke could be seen for miles.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. — NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WHAS11) – Officials are working to determine the cause of a fire that damaged a business at New Albany strip mall.

Crews were called out to the strip mall on State Street and West Daisy Lane around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Witnesses say smoke could be seen coming out a nail salon that poured into other businesses.

“A lot of smoke came into the restaurant to the point people started leaving before the firefighters came in and asked us to all clear out. Yeah there was definitely the physical fire not the heat, but the smoke was there for sure,” Beau Kurley, owner of Tucker’s American Favorites said.

New Albany Fire Chief Matthew Juliot said there was extensive damage in the rea of the building and may have burned to the roof. He says firefighters made a good stop on the fire to keep other businesses in the strip mall from losing their building.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

No injuries were reported.
