LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The City of Louisville is trying to keep small businesses thriving.
Mayor Greg Fischer launched the city’s first ever Virtual Buy Local Fair on Facebook.
The Louisville Independent Business Alliance is encouraging people to support locally-owned businesses year-round.
This year means even more to buy local as small businesses have been on hiatus due to the pandemic.
The virtual festivities were kicked off with drawings and gift cards worth $25 and will continue until midnight Monday.
The alliance normally hosts an in-person Buy Local Fair during this time of the year but COVID-19 safety guidelines encouraged them to continue virtually.
“I really want to encourage people to get out and support our local businesses as much as they possibly can. And for the two months that they were closed – two and half months, think ‘OK what would I have spent during that time?’ And if you have the means, go ahead and spend it now, please,” Mayor Fischer said.
