Gilda's Club delivers green light bulbs to homes in Kentucky, Indiana to remember those lost to COVID-19

They are calling the initiative “Gilda Goes Green” and the aim is to raise awareness for the group’s free virtual cancer support program.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Since the first deaths related to COVID-19 were announced in Kentucky and Indiana, Gov. Andy Beshear has asked residents to light up their homes with green as a sign of remembrance. Each night, homes across the states have lit up with green lights.

Now, many stores are sold out of the lights, but a local non-profit wants to help Kentuckians continue to remember those who have been lost to the virus.

Gilda’s Club Kentuckiana is delivering more than 7,000 green light bulbs to families in Louisville and Southern Indiana. The bulbs were donated by PC Home Center in New Albany

They are calling the initiative “Gilda Goes Green” and the aim is to raise awareness for the group’s free virtual cancer support program.

They have already raised more the $25,000 to support families living with cancer during the pandemic.

"It’s just been heartwarming to me. I had a lady yesterday who ran out on her porch as I was getting back in my car and she was already unscrewing her regular light bulb and putting in her green one and saying, ‘Thank you so much, thank you, thank you, thank you,’” said Karen Morrison, President & CEO Gilda's Club Kentuckiana.
