Paws with Purpose walk-a-thon goes virtual

Officials say it will now be a virtual walk with a photo contest.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The fourth annual Paws with Purpose 5K walk-a-thon begins Monday but will be a little different.

Officials say it will now be a virtual walk with a photo contest.

Participants walk with their assistant dog and submit their photos on Facebook for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate.

The contest ends on May 29 and this year one of the judges is Virginia Moore, the executive director of Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing.

"By registering for our walk, 100% of your fee is going to be donated to the training program. After registering, you will be paired up with one of our assistance dogs and we will send you a fan with your assistant dog partner. Your next job is to walk, run, dance, or really just do any physical activity you'd like and take a picture with you exercising with the Paws with Purpose fan photo that we sent to you," Kenny Tien, student co-chair, said.

You can register for this year's walk here.

Founded in 2003, Paws with Purpose places dogs free of charge with clients with physical or developmental disabilities.
