Bardstown woman charged with DUI after injuring officers in I-65 crash

A box truck overturned around 2 a.m. on I-65S. Some officers were injured while responding to the initial crash.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Bardstown woman was arrested and charged with DUI after she crashed into a stationary police cruiser on I-65S and injured three officers responding to a previous wreck.

The officers were responding to a crash near the Brooks Street exit that was reported at around 2 a.m. November 4.

An official from Kentucky State Police dispatch in Elizabethtown said while Pioneer Village officers were investigating the crash, Whitney Hardin's car crashed into a sitting cruiser.

The officer in the driver's seat was only halfway inside the door at the time, and two other officers were hit when the cruiser spun. Two officers were taken to University Hospital, and a third drove himself to Jewish South. All appear to be okay.

Officers found two open alcohol containers in Hardin's vehicle, and one of the officers on scene said she appeared to be impaired. She refused a blood draw, but a search warrant for blood was executed.

Hardin is charged with DUI, assault of a police officer and possession of open alcoholic beverage containers in a motorized vehicles.

All lanes of I-65S are now open, according to KYTC.
