Police have arrested 29-year-old Griffin Hardwick and 28-year-old Phillip Patterson. Both Hardwick and Patterson are charged with murder.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Metro Police have arrested two people in connection with a deadly stabbing.

Twenty-nine-year-old Griffin Hardwick and 28-year-old Phillip Patterson have been charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence.

According to police, Jennifer Heil was sleeping inside a home on Greentree Lane when someone banged on her windows, waking her up. Heil stepped outside and found a woman screaming that hey boyfriend had been stabbed.

Police found 31-year-old Christopher Ashton on Heil’s doorstep.

Neighbors that spoke with WHAS11 News said they believe Ashton and the woman was homeless and sleeping at a home a few doors down.

“This is crazy. I didn’t know what was happening. I was afraid to open the door because I thought it was a joke, but the screaming continued,” Heil said.

Ashton was transported to University Hospital where he later died.

Police don’t know how the suspects are connected to Ashton nor have a motive for the crime.

Police say Heil did the right thing by calling authorities but advise against opening doors for strangers at any time of the day.
