LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Harrods Creek was the place to be back in the day.
“There’s 10,000 cars that drive through here every day and no one knows this used to be a thriving community,” Steven Ton said.
The community is two miles long and has their own zip code along with a post office.
“And everything closed, and it got sucked up by Prospect, so we want to bring it back,” he said.
Harrods Creek is often lumped into Prospect or Louisville but the area wants to reclaim its identity.
“You can feel it in the air when you’re here, just walking down the street, just being outside the restaurant – you can feel it. There’s a sense of place here,” Ton said.
Ton is the general manager of the Pine Room. It’s an homage to the old Pine Room down the road that was a popular spot in the 1950’s.
"It's just really neat to be able to be a part of history and bring back what used to be so thriving. That's what our goal is, to bring back something that used to be really exciting," he said.
There are still many vacant buildings, the Pine Room is one of the newest businesses to the area, they've been open almost a year.
You'll see many elements tie in its history.
"We have little touches, so we have old match books from the Chick Inn that used to be in this location," he said.
A once bustling area that's reinventing its identity.
