LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – It was a busy weekend for LMPD investigators.
Thirteen people were injured, two were shot and killed, between seven scenes Friday night to Sunday morning, including at Tod Moore-Baker's South 38th Street apartment.
"Whether you have time, talents or treasures. I can do my part to effect change within the communities of the west end in Louisville," he said.
He wants you to join him this Saturday for a prayer walk at the Grand Avenue apartments.
LMPD responded to the complex Saturday night to find who apartment managers say was a homeless teen shot. He's in stable condition.
"This is not okay. This is not how we are to live. These children need to know that the community cares. It goes back to it takes a village," said property manager Becky Wilson.
Moore-Baker was released from prison last year after serving 27 years for the deaths of three people in Jefferson County in 1991.
He is now using his time as the executive director of New Day Ministries and wants to help break the cycle for the children who are often exposed to violence.
"We are going to love on this community. We are going to speak in these community. We are going to let these communities know you are not alone," Moore-Baker said.
LMPD says the shootings don't appear to be connected but are looking at all possibilities.
As of Sunday, LMPD has investigated 43 homicides exceeding the 37 this time last year.
Moore-Baker says it's the kids who ultimately suffer - their neighborhoods taken over by crime.
"Everyone is not bad. Look at these beautiful children. These beautiful children, they want change. Everybody is not bad," he said.
The prayer walk is set for Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at the Grand Apartments at 1039 South 38th Street.
