First 2019 Kentucky Democratic Gubernatorial Debate held in Lexington

Three Democrats who want to be Kentucky’s next governor hashed out the issues.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — They all want to beat Bevin, and for the first time, three of the four Democrats running for Kentucky governor took the stage together hoping Democratic voters will back them.

Abortion, guns, coal and marijuana were on the agenda for the first Democratic gubernatorial debate among Rocky Adkins, Andy Beshear and Adam Edelen.

When asked how they would fix Kentucky’s pension crisis, Leader Adkins said he felt 2013 reforms were gaining traction and fully funding the arc was the answer. Attorney General Beshear called for dedicated revenue streams like expanded gaming, medical marijuana and restructuring the tax code. While Mr. Edelen did not specify reforms he said were needed, he said he would fund the systems.

All said they voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and support expanded Medicaid.
