Plan for residential housing near Parklands of Floyds Fork approved

The Planning Commission approved a development plan by 21st Century Parks Endowment which would bring 592- single family homes to be built in the 442 acres of land near Bardstown Road and the Oakland Hills subdivision.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) — After nearly five hours of discussion, and back and forth between developers and neighbors, the Metro Louisville Planning Commission voted to approve residential housing plans near the Parklands.

The Planning Commission approved a development plan by 21st Century Parks Endowment which would bring 592-single family homes to be built in the 442 acres of land near Bardstown Road and the Oakland Hills subdivision.

Members also voted to approve a recommendation that will go to city council, consisting of a zoning change which would ultimately bring another 348 multi-family homes to another 20 acres of land.

Neighbors voiced concerns of more traffic on Bardstown Road, which they said already gets backed up and can be dangerous.

Neighbors were also concerned about the wildlife, specifically Kentucky Glade Cress, which only exists near that part of Kentucky.

Experts hired by 21st Century Parks told WHAS 11 that they’ve surveyed the land, and adjusted plans, even eliminating some, to make sure they preserve 98% of the glade cress on the site.

Some neighbors expressed the irony behind the development plans. 21st Century Parks endowments has a mission to raise funds that would ultimately maintain the Parklands. Neighbors feel by building these homes, they’re doing just the opposite.
