SCOTT CO., Ind. (WHAS11) – The Scottsburg Police Department is urging drivers to be aware and use caution when officers are seen on the roadways after one of their officers was hit by a vehicle on June 23.
Detective Mike Nichols was hit on Saturday morning, around 7 a.m., on State Road 56 while helping a disabled motorist.
The Scottsburg Police Department said Nichols had broken bones in his right and left arm and broken ribs. Nichols will be having a shoulder replacement surgery on June 25 and another surgery for his wrist on Wednesday, June 27.
The police department said, on their Facebook page, drivers are urged to slow down and give plenty of room to those who work on roadways.
