LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – How does the city solve its violence problem?
It’s a question many have tried to answer.
Tuesday, a controversial group of 70 business, religious and education leaders announced their own plan.
The group, known as SCALA, has created its own public safety committee – Louisville Organizations Against the Violence, or LOVE, uses a strategy looking at violence as a contagious disease.
Their Cure Violence initiative focuses on 6 pillars like enforcement, intervention and prevention.
“We know that these types of models that are based on public health approach, work. We know that it has a strong return of investment. We know it can transform communities,” Rashaad Abdur-Rahman, Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods, said.
The LOVE committee says that they will continue to have discussions until all of the violence issues have been addressed in the city.
